This piece via @blacksnob so clearly articulates the struggle of us “good” black (brown, yellow, gay) folk that it was hard to read, yet I read every word.

via @damoneroberts:  “CASSANDRA”~The newest candle by Damone Roberts

Those of you that have been in my life for awhile know that I lost my mother unexpectedly, several years ago. The picture above was taken one month prior! I have learned through my sorrow that tomorrow is promised for no one. My mother was everything to me & truly there are no words to ever describe the loss. I feel her presence around me in ways that I have chosen to keep private & have struggled for years to find a way to honor her legacy. Any success that I have achieved is due to her guidance & strength. Recently I developed a new candle scent that will bear her name “Cassandra”! Many have enjoyed The Damone Roberts, “Signature” & “Spirit” Candles through the years. I now invite you to add “Cassandra” to your collection.

It makes me not only thankful to be in a position to have my mother’s name & light lit around the world, but also extremely proud!  Enjoy “Cassandra”!

The effortless beauty of Whitney Houston’s isolated vocal track on “How Will I Know.” (via @jakefogelnest)

(via kweliwright)

I think @iamjhud performance last night nailed it.  Not to mention she paid respect by keeping it simple, #curvy & with #bighairdontcare that Whitney I am sure would have appreciated.

Whitney passed so soon, so suddenly and as she had in her lifetime with so much speculation.  Although we would have all wanted to see more done, this small tribute, and small touches like LL Cool J’s prayer and wishes of love from those like Stevie Wonder were beautiful touches.  Many tributes will be paid to Whitney in the coming weeks and months, and to rush something more complicated would have been an insult to who she was and who she was trying to become.

"We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will."

Happy birthday and black history month to Langston Hughes #RIP

What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore then run? Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust over like a syrupy sweet? Maybe it sags like a heavy load. Or does it just explode?

RIP Tupac Amari.
While people will always debate your GOAT status, you are a GOAT of culture.  Your artistic genius, your battle with yourself and your art for your identity and your tragic and untimely death have affected pop culture in ways that not many have or will.
We miss you Pac not only for your records but for the light and darkness you showed with so much fervor to our world.  Gone but never, ever, forgotten.
Here’s a toast to a crush never realized (Jada got there first…damn, lol)
